Establishment of OSPM

OROMIA STEEL PIPE MILL PLC (OSPM) is located in OROMIA Regional Government, Finfinnee area Special Zone, at Salulta area about 15 kilometers apart from the centre of FINFINNEE (Addis Ababa). Our plant is an ultra-modern facility with more than 29,000 m2 under roof and with a storage area of 71,000 m2. The total investment capital is estimated to be more than Birr 410,000,000.00 (four hundred ten million), from which about birr 150,000,000.00 (one hundred fifty million) allocated for factory premises (facilities) while birr 260,000,000.00 (Two hundred Sixty million) for purchase of factory machinery & equipment that has been made in state of the art equipment. Excluding the factory facilities, the total cost that is fully invested is birr 260,000,000.00 (two hundred sixty million) is contributed from Joint ventured Partners made on December 2007 among two government development enterprises namely Oromia Water Works Construction Enterprise who is a major shareholder & its share contribution accounts for Br.140,000,000.00 (one hundred forty million), Oromia Forest & Wildlife Enterprise its share contribution accounts for Br.60,000,000.00 (sixty million) and Foreign Investor called Golden Trade Company LTD. its share contribution accounts for Br.60,000,000.00 (sixty million). Oromia Steel Pipe Mil PLC (OSPM PLC) which is the only factory in the country that is engaged in production of longitudinal, spiral steel pipe and screen casings of various diameters ranging from 88.9mm (3 inches) to 630 mm (24 inch) with a maximum length of 4 meter to 12 meters and wall thickness 2.5mm to 10.0mm.

Products of OSPM

At the end of the 2nd phase of the GTP period the water supply coverage of the country expected to reach 100% and in connection with this the demand for water supply facilities especially steel pipe for potable water and irrigation water supply is increasing at an alarming rate, though the associated cost of importing the goods from abroad is too high. And due to the price advantage of steel pipes as compared to Ductile Cast Iron (DCI), and its ease installation and connection methods to be used, its market opportunity continued to have further market share in view to meet the need of water supply, irrigation water development and for large scale sugar industries and agricultural development sectors. The short coming of pipes in the long process of importing is (being it is a volumetric product) the transport cost is vital in pricing; therefore, manufacturing the goods at domestic level is a greatest opportunity for market control resulting from: Its price competitive advantage,Short period of delivery as it is readily available or within the short period of putting order of production,Arrangement of local transportation and related costs,Ease terms of payment modality and currency as no need for LC opening for the customers as of procurement of goods from abroad.Always having delivery of newly manufactured pipes that could easily be inspected at no cost at point of shipment at any time.The product quality assurance that emanate from national commitment,The price is fixed price (no price fluctuation for certain short period for customers), due to the impact of external factors, fuel cost, raw materials, change in world market price, transportation, exchange rate, change in tender rules and procedures, etc., are among the market opportunities that favored the local steel pipe users.
